About the Jazz Bands

The Roxbury High School Jazz Bands are open to all students grades 9 through 12. The program consists of two auditioned bands, The Roxbury High School Big Band and the Jazz Ensemble. Students are exposed to and explore a large variety of jazz genres and techniques. Students are also given the oppurtunity to perform jazz solos during the annual jazz concert.

The Roxbury High School Big Band

The Roxbury High School Big Band is one of two auditioned jazz bands and comprises jazz musicians from grades 9 through 12. This ensemble studies, rehearses, explores and performs a wide range of moderate to advanced jazz music. Proper jazz techniques and concepts are also explored in the Big Band.

The Jazz Ensemble

The Roxbury High School Jazz Ensemble comprises our top jazz musicians from grades 9 through 12. Students wishing to become a member of the jazz ensemble must audition and be able to attend weekly rehearsals. The Jazz Ensemble studies, rehearses, and performs a wide range of professionally graded music from the jazz genre and has performed at numerous jazz festivals.
