Dorney/Hershey Ticket Fundraiser

The Roxbury High School Band Patrons Association will be sponsoring a Dorney and Hershey Park Ticket Fundraiser. Discounted tickets to both Hershey and Dorney Park will be available for ordering. A percentage of the proceeds will go towards the Roxbury High School Instrumental Music Program.

100 Best Communities

Congratulations to Roxbury Township for being selected as one of the 100 best communities for young people. Throughout the past three years, Roxbury has received $504,500 in grants, which has been used to fund after school programs and recreational facilities. Roxbury’s largest collaborative project, Imagination Station, received $20,000 in donations and brought together more than 1,500 volunteers to rebuild a 19-year old playground. Because young people are a priority in the city of Roxbury, adults and mentors encourage youth leadership skills development through community service projects. More than 200 programs serve 2,000 children through this initiative. The school district now graduates 94.4 percent of students, and this 2011 recognition marks an exciting first win for Roxbury.

Congratulations to the Roxbury High School Marching Gaels, who have wrapped up another historic season! The end of the season Marching Band Banquet will take place on Monday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the celebretory banquet is free for only marching band members and their parents. Additional guests are welcomed but will be charged a $10 admission fee.

Historic Year Ahead!

The Roxbury High School Instrumental Music Department is about to embark on one of its most historic years yet! The 2011-2012 performance season is packed full of historic and memorable events that the various bands within the program will take part in. This year, the Roxbury High School Wind Symphony was invited, for a second time, to the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Roxbury High School Symphony Band was invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Rounding out this historic year, the 9th Symphony will perform a wold premiere of a newly commissioned piece of music during the May concert.

Honors Wind Symphony to Perform at NCBF

The Roxbury High School Honors Wind Symphony from Succasunna, NJ has been invited to perform as part of the Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha, March 15-17 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Roxbury High School Honors Wind Symphony is under the direction of Director of Bands, Todd Nichols and will perform in concert during this festival.

The Music for All National Festival is recognized as the epitome of scholastic instrumental music festivals in America. Music for All is one of the nation’s largest and most influential organizations advocating in support of music education. The Festival comprises the National Concert Band Festival, Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, Middle School National Music Festival and three national honor ensembles: the Honor Band of America, the Jazz Band of America and the Honor Orchestra of America.

This will be second time the Roxbury High School Honors Windy Symphony has performed at this prestigious event having performed in 2008. The Roxbury Band program is known for quality and excellence in all areas including a nationally recognized marching band, innovative concert band and chamber music program and an intensive guest artist and conductor program allowing students to work with the very best musical artists from around the country. The RHS Honors Wind Symphony has performed at the 2008 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and world famous concert halls Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Twenty-six high school and middle school ensembles from across the nation were selected by recorded audition to perform in concert at the Festival, be evaluated by master music educators and participate in master classes and special events. Invited concert bands and percussion ensembles for the 2012 Festival come from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Started by a group of parents of high school students ten years ago, the Roxbury Arts Alliance has a proud history of hosting and sponsoring various art events. We are also consultants for other art events in town, and we work with other organizations to promote an appreciation in the arts in our area. The Alliance, will be sponsoring the following events:

Dec 11, 2011 – The Nutcracker performed by the Garden State Ballet School at Roxbury High School – $10 admission

Jan 8, 2012 – Chris Messineo – Steven Spielberg Film talk – 2 PM RoxPAC Suggested donation $5.00 per person

January 13, 2012 -2012 Grammy Award Winners “The New York Voices” 7:30 PM Roxbury High School – Benefit Concert for RHS Choir Program

Feb 17, 2012 – Blue Moon Revue – Doo Wop Concert – 7:30 PM RoxPAC $10.00 admission

March 3, 2012 - Children’s Story Telling – 2 PM at the RoxPAC Suggested Donation $5.00 per family

April 28, 2012 – Jazz Guitarist B.D. Lenz Quartet at the RoxPAC 7:30 PM $10.00 Admission
