Sarah Bednarcik is currently the Assistant Director of Bands at Roxbury High School.  She presently conducts the Ninth Symphony and is one of the District Woodwind Specialists. Her teaching responsibilities include assisting with the 7th and 8th grade bands, Symphony Band, Wind Symphony, Marching Band, and teaching clarinet and saxophone lessons grades 7-12.  She also teaches Basic Music Theory and is the coordinator of the instrumental chamber music program.  In spring of 2008, Ms. Bednarcik helped create and implement a Summer Band Program for students in grades 5-8.Ms. Bednarcik earned a B.M. in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, she studied clarinet and bass clarinet with J. Lawrie Bloom and Russell Dagon, conducting with Dr. Mallory Thompson and Dr. John Lynch, and was a member of the Northwestern Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble.  In 2005, Ms. Bednarcik completed her M.M. in Clarinet Performance as a graduate assistant at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.  While at Rutgers, she studied clarinet with Maureen Hurd and performed with the Rutgers Wind Ensemble and University Orchestra. She played Eb clarinet, Bb clarinet and bass clarinet on various Rutgers Wind Ensemble recordings, performed with both ensembles at Carnegie Hall and with the Wind Ensemble at both the NJMEA and CBDNA conferences.  In addition, Ms. Bednarcik also taught non-major and secondary instrument clarinet lessons to undergraduate and graduate students.Ms. Bednarcik maintains a private clarinet studio and is an active solo and chamber musician in the New York Metropolitan area. She is a founding member of Vento Trio, a wind trio specializing in classical and popular Brazilian chamber music. The group arranges traditional Brazilian music and introduces new 20th century Brazilian music through performances and clinics. The trio has performed at the International Double Reed Society conferences at both Ball State University and Ithaca College.  In the summer of 2008, the trio traveled to France to serve as clinicians and performers at the international Fou de Basson, and performed at the conservatories in St. Brieuc and Angouleme.  Their CD, Brazilian Dances and Inventions, was released in 2006.  Ms. Bednarcik’s professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, the New Jersey Music Educators Association, the National Band Association and the International Clarinet Association.
